When Hope Meets Reality
I had high hopes for Cynomi. The demos looked impressive, and I believed it would transform our compliance services. But I soon found limitations:
- While they customize assessments based on onboarding questions, that's where the customization ends
- It works for initial assessment but struggles with ongoing compliance management
- The platform lacks audit and evidence management capabilities, with no integrations to GovCloud
- With only about 9 supported frameworks, versatility is limited
- It helps identify gaps but can't get a company fully audit-ready
- Multi-client management created more work instead of less
What Our Peer Group Said
- "A static assessment tool" despite the AI marketing
- "No integration with client success" - disconnected from QBRs and planning
- "Not designed for multi-client MSPs" - better suited for single-client consulting
"We needed a compliance solution that could scale with our MSP business. Cynomi helped identify gaps but left us stranded when it came to remediation planning or evidence collection."
"The platform is fine for initial assessments, but after that, you're back to spreadsheets. We still needed three separate tracking sheets to manage the actual remediation process."
"The interface feels like it was built for a single-client consultant. We couldn't effectively manage multiple clients without doubling our workload. It's like the developers have never worked with an MSP before."
"Sure, it helped identify gaps in our security posture. But then what? There was no clear path forward, no remediation planning that connected to our roadmap. We paid for a tool that pointed out problems but didn't help us solve them."
The Bottom Line
For MSPs scaling compliance services, Cynomi has limitations. While it offers decent assessment capabilities, it falls short on audit readiness, evidence management, and multi-client functionality. Despite our genuine effort to make it work, it ultimately wasn't the right fit for our needs.
